Memphis and The Bluff City name

First on the agenda is to explain our name to all of those who find our site and do not live in the Memphis or mid-south area. Memphis, or “The Bluff City” as it is referred to, has been called the Bluff City for many many years. Part of our history is that the city was founded on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. These bluffs provide the city with some protection of rising waters in the Mississippi River each spring and many tell of how they may guide tornados away from the city. There have been many companies named using this cognomen…..Bluff city insurance, Bluff city heating and air, Bluff city plumbing, and the list goes on. Even newscasters on both radio and TV and the local newspaper in our area refer to Memphis as the Bluff City. So this is how we came up with this name for our web site.
Not to confuse matters any, but there is an actual Bluff City TN. This city is located on the extreme other end of the state from Memphis and is in the mountains. Here is a link that will tell you all about the real city named Bluff City TN
